Gucci’s New Girl

Gucci Pre Fall 2015 Campaign

Gucci Pre Fall 2015 Campaign

Yesterday, the Business of Fashion exclusively revealed Gucci’s new advertising campaign, the first since Alessandro Michele took the helm as creative director.  And it’s clear from these images that the Italian fashion house is repositioning itself following the departure of Michele’s predecessor, Frida Giannini, earlier this year…

Gucci Pre Fall 2015 Campaign

The Pre Fall 2015 campaign is much more gritty than Giannini’s glamorous vision (below), and a world away from Tom Ford‘s sex sells era, which reflects Michele’s ‘new’ Gucci girl, described as “…an ingenue with an eccentric side…” by style.com’s Nicole Phelps.

But as the Business of Fashion also reported, there is a strange twist in this tale in that although the campaign was conceived by the new creative director, the clothes featured are actually from Frida Giannini’s final collection, given her abrupt departure from the house.

Despite this rather unusual state of affairs, the obvious change in direction is still clear, and the look and feel of this new campaign will I’m sure set the standard for what we can expect from Michele in the future.
