The fashion industry relies on change. It always has. What is so astonishing today is the breakneck pace of change, which has shifted from seasonal and focused to constant and schizophrenic. Elizabeth L. Cline
I’ve just finished reading Elizabeth L. Cline’s book, ‘Over-Dressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion’, and it’s a real eye opener.
The book follows the author’s personal journey from fast fashion fan to eco-conscious consumer. But it also includes insights into the current ‘trend’ for cheap fashion with input from so called ‘haulers’, industry insiders, garment factory workers and vintage store owners, among others.
Ultimately, it charts how the declining cost of clothing has fundamentally changed the way we shop today.
