With the holiday season now in full swing, the familiar ‘How to Travel in Style’ guides are being published in force. However, Vogue Paris recently took a slightly different approach to this annual trend.
Rather than showcasing current celebrities’ and models ‘off duty’ looks, their ‘Travel Icons’ feature looks back at stars’ enroute style from decades past.
The pictures I’ve posted here, all taken in London, are my personal favourites…
Mia Farrow & Laurence Harvey 1967
Bianca Jagger 1972
Brigitte Bardot 1966
It’s clear that arriving, or departing, in style was just as important in the past as it is now. And also, if you click through the full gallery, that the dark glasses and statement hats which are the common choice of celebrity ‘disguise’ today, were also sported by star travellers back then. Some things never change.
But there’s something about these pictures which seem so much more glamorous than the airport shots we are now more familiar with. Maybe it’s simply because air travel itself was thought of as so much more glamorous back then, or perhaps the fact that celebrities were happier to be photographed in an age before being ‘papped’ became more of a problem than an opportunity. What do you think?
