Ballet Beautiful

Ballet dancers

These beautiful black and white images, captured by renowned German photographer Peter Lindbergh, form part of the New York City Ballet’s 2016-17 campaign.

Shot out of context, at a country house in upstate New York rather than in the dancers’ traditional theatre home, and styled ever so simply by Julia von Boehm, the elegant and informal photographs capture a not often seen side of ballet…

Big Easy

Black and white fashion photography

When I first stumbled across this editorial I thought it was a repost from the past, but it actually appears in this month’s edition of Vogue Australia.

Titled ‘Big Easy’, model Luna Bijl was styled by Katie Mossman and photographed by Sebastian Kim for the shoot, which has a nostalgic downtown glamour feel about it.

It was difficult to select my favourites, but here are the images that made the cut…

Dark Angel

Gothic fashion

This haunting collection of images, taken as part of a recent fashion story on Interviewmagazine.com, taps into my love of all things gothic.

Styled by Ludivine Poiblanc, Dutch model Julia Bergshoeff wears pieces from this season’s couture and ready-to-wear collections, shot by Fabien Baron against a series of darkly romantic  backdrops.

The way the image gallery has been edited caught my eye too, with pictures cropped and shaped to create a clever collage effect…

Peter Lindbergh x Vogue Italia

Peter Lindbergh x Vogue Italia | MODE+MAISON

This captivating collection of photographs was shot, unmistakably, by Peter Lindbergh. The German photographer’s cinematic, typically black and white style is a favourite of fashion editors and brands alike, and these elegant images of Italian model Mariacarla Boscono were published in last month’s Haute Couture issue of Vogue Italia…

Belle De Jour

Belle De jour | MODE+MAISON

Monochrome looks, modelled here by Adrienne Jüliger, are a recurring theme for magazine shoots, reflecting our love of simple black and white style.  But in this ‘Belle De Jour’ story for Vogue Paris’s April 2016 issue, fashion editor Véronique Didry takes a fresh approach to a familiar favourite.

Belle De Jour | MODE+MAISON

Shot by photographer Claudia Knoepfel, Adrienne, who you may recognise as the new face of DKNY, sports several two-tone looks, but it’s those images that have been styled in a sort of game of fashion role reversal that particularly caught my eye.

In this picture below, it’s perhaps surprising to see sheer black stockings and shiny black patent shoes paired with crisp white trousers…

And here, a white Céline Box Bag and leather ‘v-neck’ shoes have been used to accessorise an all black outfit…

Alice is a Punk

These arresting images of model Alice Metza come hot on the heels of my ode to the fishnet (here).

Featured in the spring/summer 2016 edition of Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book, the Los Angeles native has been styled by Carine herself for this dramatic shoot, which is a clever combination of punk, tribal and heritage influences.

And credit must go to the hair and make-up team, Didier Malige and Isamaya French, too.  Quite stunning.
